Arriving in The Netherlands
After arriving in the Netherlands, one of your first appointments will be at your local municipality within 5 days after arrival:
- Enrolling into the Basic Registration Persons (BRP)
- Obtaining your personal Social Security Number, the BSN number, for you and your family.
This BSN number is your pathway for communicating with governmental institutes. With a BSN number you can rent a house, open a bank account, find a job and applying for allowances.
You also need a DigiD login to enter governmental websites.
As soon as you are enrolled at the local municipality and received your BSN number, you are a Dutch tax resident.
Your first task as tax resident from the Netherlands is to introduce yourself to the Dutch tax authorities.
